By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.   John 15:8

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!   Galatians 5:22:23

We all know that faith without works is dead.  Well I tell ya that faith without fruit is dead.  We’ve got so many idiots proclaiming the name of “Jesus” who don’t have a clue what “Jesus” is all about.

Jesus said that they will know us by our fruit.  It’s fruit people!  It’s fruit that proves who we really are to the world!  I cringe every time I hear a derogatory, racist remark from a bible believing Christian.  Where is the love in that?  I am disgusted by the rantings and ravings taking place on social media when “lost” people do “lost” things.  Where is the kindness in our speech?  Hey, news flash fellow believers:  THEY’RE LOST! They haven’t had the heart change that we’ve had and they don’t have the Holy Spirit!

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t stand up for what the Word of God says.  By all means, stand up.  But when you stand up, you better be cloaked in the goodness, gentleness, kindness, and patience of the Holy Spirit because the world is watching.  We are not called to change the world; we’re called to exude the fruit and fragrance of Christ so that the world may see Him through us and be changed.  We’re called to love them, be patient with them, and show them kindness.  Don’t you remember that it was His kindness that led us to repentance?  It wasn’t harsh judgment and condemnation that brought us to our knees begging His forgiveness.  We saw something in Him that the world was lacking. His character drew us in.

This fruit doesn’t just appear mysteriously.  And it’s not by your power or strength.  You can’t be good enough to produce it on your own.  It’s the fruit of the Spirit…no, literally the fruit of the Spirit. It comes from the Spirit of the Living God who resides in every believer.  It’s produced when we surrender to His way of doing things; fragrant when we walk by His Spirit.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.  For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things you please.  Galatians 5:16-17

Did you see that?  “So that you may not do the things you please.”  We have to choose to swim upstream and fight our flesh, our natural responses.  I know it’s easier to respond to other’s ungodliness with more of the same, but what are we really accomplishing?  Can a lost person really see God in the life we’re living, in all of our responses, in all our words, in our attitude?

Jesus said a good tree cannot produce bad fruit and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit.  It’s not a one-foot-in-one-foot-out lifestyle.  It’s a sold-out-to-Jesus-and-you-can-tell-by-my-fruit lifestyle that Christ is after.  He gave all, so should we.  Hey listen, I’ve not got this all together by any means.  I’m still working on my own junk.  Every time I fall, I get back up, brush myself off and climb back into the saddle.  God’s got the reins.  He’s faithful to finish the work He’s started in me, but He won’t force it on me.  He’s gentle and patient.  We work on one little area at a time.  He doesn’t throw me up on a chopping block and cut big slabs of my rotten flesh off all at once.  Thank God because there wouldn’t be much left but a bloody nub.  Okay, sorry for the gross visual, but you get my point.

fruit hanging 2So let me ask, you what fruit is hanging on your tree?  Can the people in your life reach up and feast on the goodness of God that you have hanging from your limbs?  Can they taste and see that the Lord is good in your life?  You’ve got fruit hanging, the question is what kind.

God wants to do some fruit inspection!  If He were to look closely at the fruit on your tree, what would He find?  Spend some time with Him today and let Him tell you what He sees.  Don’t be scared, He’s an encourager!  He doesn’t just point out the things you need to work on, but He praises you in areas you overcame.  He’ll gently point out some areas in your life He’d like you to work on, certain fruit He’d like to see more of.  Listen to today’s audio track to get your prayer time started.

Spend some time over the next week looking a little closer at what scripture says about the different fruit.
