I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit.  However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. John 15:5 AMP

Nothing, nada, zip, zero, zilch! Do you have any idea how horrible I am without Jesus? Horrible I tell you!  Just a few days without spending quality time with Him and the witch is out of the closet on her broom again.  Laugh if you will, but I’m telling you the truth; I’m wicked without Him!  I recently took one of those Facebook quizzes called “How Witchy are You?”  (Of course, it was not titled “witchy” but, well, you fill in the blank.)  I love Facebook quizzes, although I never post the results unless they make me look amazing and really smart.  Seriously, you know you do it too.  But about a quarter of the way into the “Witchy” quiz I knew how it was going to turn out and I couldn’t expose myself like that.  I’d rather lie than see the truth in black and white.  So I began to fudge some of the answers so that it wouldn’t end up the way I knew it would.  Thankfully, I only scored 72% witchy but you’ll never see those results on my wall.  Yes ladies, I may have lied on the quiz, but I cannot lie to myself.  I know how much I need Jesus. I am incapable of being consistently good, spiritually speaking.  I need a daily dose of His Presence and His Word.  I’m 100% totally dependent on Him, and that is a good thing!

Read today’s scripture again…

I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. John 15:5 AM.

I’ve got good news for you.  To bear much fruit doesn’t mean to produce much fruit in this passage.  It means to bear, like to bear a burden, to hold up or support.  The fruit is from God, we just let it hang off of us for the world to feast on and show off His goodness.  Have you ever seen an apple attached to a tree trunk or grapes hanging off roots?  No.  It has a go-between, a branch.  And God in all of His infinite wisdom has chosen to partner with us in this mission of rescuing the world.  The fruit we bear, hold up, and display is that of the Holy Spirit.  The only requirement for us to bear it is to stay close to Him.  We can do no good thing without Him; He’s the only good thing.

Even Jesus referred to God as the only One who was good.  In Matthew 19:17, Jesus says, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.”  Why would Jesus say that?  I mean, isn’t He God too?  Yes, He is God, but He was also a man.  He is the way, the truth and the life.  He humbly came to earth to reveal the way to the Father.  What does God want?  To be close to us, to be inseparable, one heart, one mind, one mission.  Jesus would only go where His Father said go, and do what His Father said do.  He spent years getting to know God just the way we have to.  He wasn’t born all-knowing.  He grew into a deep, intimate relationship with the Father. He learned scripture, He prayed and He was filled with the Holy Spirit.  He was led by God’s Spirit in EVERYTHING He did.  Every fruit that He bore was from the same Spirit we have living inside of us.  We have the same resource available to us to live the godly life He lived.  All we have to do is stay connected.  Our connection to God is vital to the quality of life we will live.  Those who remain connected to Him, who know Him, walk with strength, power and authority to overcome life’s difficulties and He reaches the world through us.

So are you ready to stop striving for perfection and start spending more time with Him?  Are you ready to stop trying to control the people around you and spend time listening to God’s specific instructions and bear His fruit?

YOUR KOFFEE WITH THE KING:  God wants you to know what it feels like to be connected to Him.  He wants to remove the burden of perfection that you place on yourself.  When He leads you, you’re free.  When He’s your source, you measure up, you’re enough because He feeds you words of life.  You can lay your head down at the end of every day knowing you were successful that day because you were fully connected to Him.  He is the source for everything.  EVERYTHING.  You can do all things through Him!  All things ladies.  Take this time to connect and focus on what a life 100% dependent on Him looks like.  Let Him show you that picture in your time with Him today.  Let Him overwhelm your soul with His goodness and fill up all of the lack in your life.
